..came into existence in 2006 as a direct response to a diocesan conference on global warming, at the end of which we were challenged both as individuals and as churches to go away and consider what action we might take on environmental issues.(This overlaps trade and justice issues too.)The bishop pointed out we should not just demand policies of our government, but embark on necessary changes ourselves.We have a Christian responsibility to take care of our planet and to consider what state we want to leave it in for future generations.
The Holy Saviour’s group meets roughly once a month and over the four years since it began has worked hard in a whole variety of ways, to raise awareness and also be active in environmental issues.
Meetings are informal, but purposeful, and have covered a wide range of topics from ethical banking to recycling computers to offsetting carbon emissions.They are always very sociable occasions too!
